Award/Details

2011 Gilman International Scholarship, New Zealand

Paul received the Gilman Scholarship to help pay for his participation in EcoQuest, a study abroad program in New Zealand. While there, he helped to critically analyze current ecological programs including invasive pest control, indigenous species management, and the requisite social topics. He spent many days in the field learning about the local flora and fauna and contributing to ongoing research on the health of local shellfish populations; this research was used to manage the health of the Wharekawa Estuary. Upon his return, Paul planned to take more classes and participate in field studies focused on endangered species rehabilitation and forest ecology.
