Nikolai Carroll

Nikolai grew up on Vashon Island, Washington, where a childhood spent exploring tide pools, watching wild marine mammals, and crabbing with his older brothers inspired him to pursue a career in marine ecology. Through his degree, he hoped to help preserve our aquatic friends and their environments while satisfying his curiosity about these marine creatures. The Gilman Scholarship helped Nikolai fund his study abroad trip to Thailand, where he was able to study the coral reef ecology of the Indo-Pacific.
