2010 Smith College Summer Art Museum Intern

Meredith received full funding to attend the 2010 Summer Institute in Art Museum Studies at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. The six-week program engaged students in an in-depth exploration of art museums. Weekly travel to over twenty museums in the New York and Boston area provided Meredith with the opportunity to meet professionals and make lasting connections with various departments. Class time was spent studying the history of museums, collection maintenance and growth, the importance of museum architecture, department organization, current museum challenges and funding opportunities. Essays and reading assignments focused attention on contemporary topics and encouraged reflection on recent travels. Through workshops, Meredith learned about pursuing a career in the museum field, including how to properly handle and care for works of art. Throughout the program, Meredith and her colleagues even organized and mounted their own Exhibition.
