2012 Ernest F. Hollings, National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration; 2015 National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Fellowship

While at Western, Kaitlyn double majored in Marine Biology and Creative Writing, while maintaining her place in the Honors Program. During her Hollings internship, Kaitlyn studied the behavior of migrating salmon smolts in the Penobscot Estuary in Maine. After her graduation, Kaitlyn will attend graduate school, likely studying crustaceans, and work toward a Ph.D. Kaitlyn made great connections through the Hollings, received unparalleled work experience, and learned about the organization she hoped to work for in the future. After graduating from Western, Kaitlyn received a $30,000 National Science Foundation Fellowship for graduate study.
