Award/Details

2018 LTER Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU)

Wherever the wind whistled through the trees and the water lapped against the shore, you could find Rachel exploring nature. Building upon an early foundation laid by a collection of miscellaneous outdoor skills and engaging science teachers, Rachel found her home in the environmental science field. For her REU, Rachel worked in a biogeochemistry lab at Michigan State University studying carbon fluxes in stream and hyperheic environments. Upon graduation from Western, Rachel set her sights on graduate school and jobs that allowed her to practice science in nature. The interactions between bodies of water and their surrounding environments are particularly interesting to her.
