Melody Gao

Melody Gao was an outstanding student during her time at WWU, participating in various clubs and labs while obtaining her degree in Biochemistry with minors in Psychology and Honors. Her strong interest in research resulted in her becoming the lead student researcher in Dr. Jeanine Amacher’s lab, where she studied protein-peptide interactions. Gao was also the co-president of the WWU Chemistry Club and the WWU Pre-Health Club, and graduated as the Outstanding Graduate in Chemistry. In 2020, Gao received the Goldwater Scholarship and spent that summer conducting research at the University of California, Los Angeles, studying the structure of Class 1 PDZ domains. After graduating, Gao took some time off from school to work and apply to become a Doctor of Medicine. She now studies at the University of Washington School of Medicine, and plans to become a pediatrician.
